Doing Get Info in Font Book.app will tell you when this is an issue. Delete the old font and reinstall the new. I had to do this when installing Finale 2014. Some of my Finale fonts had 1995 build dates on them so I went ahead and removed every Finale font manually in Font Book.app.

Staffwriter font – Not free, but a font which is designed to put musical characters into word processing and other text documents. It has a lot of symbols in it – many more than my free fonts above. It is available through http://www.macmusicfonts.com/.
